MSN Status, MSN Messenger Status and Changing your MSN Status
MSN Status
Your MSN Status can be set from MSN Messenger.
If you ever have to go away or currently busy, you can set your MSN status
accordingly. Your MSN Status is seen automatically by your
contacts.

Changing your MSN Status is an easy way to inform your contacts at a glance what you're doing and if you're available for a conversation.
Whilst some MSN status settings — such as Online, Offline, and Away — are automatic, you must manually select others
MSN Status'. You can also create your own MSN status messages by using the personal message feature.
Each MSN status setting has a different meaning or function.
MSN Status: Offline You are not able to send or receive instant messages. When you sign out of MSN Messenger, your
MSN status automatically changes to Offline. If you try to send an instant message to a contact
whose MSN Status is offline, MSN Hotmail or your e-mail program will start so you can send an e-mail message instead. Contacts with this
MSN status have a red contact icon next to their names.
MSN Status: Online You are able to send and receive instant messages. When you sign in to MSN Messenger, your
MSN status automatically changes to Online. Contacts with this status have a green contact icon
or a display picture next to their names.
MSN Status: BusyYou are online, but don't want to be disturbed. Incoming instant messages do not generate audible alerts. Contacts with this
MSN status have a
next to their names.
MSN Status: Be Right BackYou are online, but away from your computer for a short time. Contacts with this
MSN status have a
next to their names.
MSN Status: Away You are online, but away from your computer for an unspecified period of time. MSN Messenger can automatically change your
MSN status to Away after a period of time that you can specify. Contacts with this status have a
next to their names.
MSN Status: On the Phone You are online, but on the phone, and do not want to be disturbed. Incoming instant messages do not generate audible alerts. Contacts with this
MSN status have a
next to their names.
MSN Status: Out to Lunch You are online, but away from your computer. Contacts with this status have a
next to their names.
MSN Status: Appear Offline You are online and able to view your contacts; however, you appear offline to your contacts and no one is able to initiate a conversation with you. Also, you cannot initiate a conversation with your contacts unless you change your
MSN status. Contacts with this MSN status have a red contact icon next to their names.
MSN Status: Mobile contactYou can send and receive mobile instant messages. Contacts with a mobile
MSN status have a yellow contact icon
next to their names. However, some mobile contacts may appear as a green contact icon
when their mobile device is online, or as a red contact icon
when their mobile device is offline.
MSN Status: Web Messenger: You have signed in to MSN Web Messenger. Contacts with this
MSN status have a
next to their names.
MSN Status: MSN Spaces You have updated your space with new material. Contacts with this
MSN status have a
next to their names.
Changing Your MSN Status
In order to change your MSN Status you must have your MSN
Messenger connected.
Beside your screen (display) name there will be brackets that show your
MSN status. If you are set to MSN Status Busy and your screen name is Peter, then it will look like Peter (Busy).
To change your current MSN status, click the arrow beside your
MSN Status. Above is Peter's MSN status and if you look next to the (Busy) you will see a small arrow pointing downward. You can click anywhere in that box. After clicking, a small box will instantly appear under your Display Name. This will show you a list of
MSN statuses to choose from. Select the one that best suits you're current
MSN status.
